UT Tyler School of Nursing Academic Calendar, 2026-27
The School of Nursing sets its own term dates, which differ by a few days from the main university calendar. Fall 2026 goes from Aug 27 through Dec 12, spring 2027 from Jan 7 through Apr 24, and summer 2027 from May 10 through Aug 14, with two 7-week Flex sessions inside each term.

Two calendars, and the one that governs your NURS courses
UT Tyler publishes a university calendar and a separate School of Nursing calendar for 2026-27. If you are enrolled in nursing courses, the School of Nursing version is the one to trust, because its start dates, census days and withdrawal cutoffs are set for the nursing terms.
The two drift apart by a few days, and that drift is where mistakes happen. The university's 15-week fall classes open Aug 24, with census on Sep 8 and withdrawal allowed through Oct 30. The nursing fall session opens Aug 27, takes census on Sep 10 and allows withdrawal through Nov 2. In spring the university starts Jan 11 and the School of Nursing starts Jan 7.
When a date in an email or a syllabus seems off by a day or two, check which calendar it came from before you act on it.
Full-semester dates for fall, spring and summer
Every nurse practitioner clinical course runs the full semester, so these rows frame the FNP courses (NURS 5347, NURS 5349 and NURS 5453 to NURS 5455) along with the PMHNP practicums. Summer is one week shorter, which leaves one week less to reach the same course hours.

Mark finals week and spring break now. The PMHNP syllabi rule out clinical time during university holidays, breaks and finals week, so psychiatric students lose those days from their clinical calendar. Other tracks should read their own syllabus before booking a shift in those weeks.
The 7-week Flex sessions
Each semester also splits into two 7-week Flex sessions, which UT Tyler's two-year course rotation labels SON 1 and SON 2. The MSN core courses (NURS 5301, NURS 5302, NURS 5321, NURS 5324, NURS 5325) run in these short sessions, and the RN to BSN and concurrent ADN-BSN courses are taught online in 7-week blocks as well.

The AGACNP certificate is where Flex timing meets clinical hours head-on. One 125-hour practicum fills each 7-week session, so NURS 7385 runs Aug 27 to Oct 17 in fall 2026 and its partner practicum follows in the second half. The syllabus suggests setting aside about 20 clinical hours a week per practicum, which leaves no room for a slow start. The AGACNP practicum page covers the full sequence.
Census, drops and withdrawals
Census is the line that decides whether a dropped course leaves a mark. The registrar sets out the sequence below, and adds that nursing students follow the procedures the School of Nursing sets.

Before you withdraw from anything, talk to your course faculty and advisor. In the MSN a withdrawal counts as an attempt at the course, and each course may be repeated only once; the grades and time-limits page explains how that adds up. Flex census comes within the first week of each session, so a Flex course you want gone without a W has to go almost at once.
Graduation filing, TASSEL and commencement
Finishing your courses does not graduate you on its own. UT Tyler's registrar says every student must formally apply, and a student who skips the application is not reviewed for the degree.

A late application is still accepted until the end of the term, with a late fee added on top of the regular one. Walking the stage is a separate sign-up: for fall 2026, register in TASSEL by Nov 9. Fall commencement is held in the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, and master's and doctoral hooding happen during the ceremony. The Nursing Convocation, or pinning, is for BSN graduates.
Planning clinical hours around the calendar
Clinical deadlines sit ahead of the calendar. School policy calls for sites and preceptors to clear approval ahead of the semester's first day, PMHNP students may not start clinical on day one of class, and the AGACNP syllabus warns that going past Week 2 without a secured placement can leave too little time to finish the course. In practice, the search for a preceptor belongs months before Aug 27, Jan 7 or May 10.
FNP students also carry a fixed campus date: the OSCE, typically in Week 11. For NURS 5349 in fall 2026, that is the Nov 9 to 15 campus window. The OSCE page covers those days, and the scheduling rules page covers weekly minimums and logging.

The first day of class is not your first clinical day. The PMHNP syllabi are blunt about it: time with a preceptor before the last approval arrives earns no credit, whatever week of the term it is.

When is spring break for UT Tyler nursing students in 2027?
Spring break on the School of Nursing calendar is Mar 8 to 12, 2027, inside the session that runs Jan 7 to Apr 24. PMHNP syllabi bar clinical time over university breaks, holidays and finals week, so psychiatric students should treat that week as closed. Other tracks should check their own syllabus before planning a shift then.
Does UT Tyler hold a summer commencement for nursing graduates?
The 2026-27 calendars list a summer commencement on Aug 14, 2027. An older School of Nursing graduation policy, last reviewed in August 2022, says there is no university-sponsored summer ceremony. The calendar is the newer statement, but confirm on UT Tyler's commencement page before you book travel for family.
When does registration open for UT Tyler graduate nursing courses?
Graduate students can register for spring 2027 starting Nov 2, 2026, and for fall 2027 starting Mar 15, 2027. Clear holds first: the School of Nursing blocks registration until your transcripts are received and your immunizations, CPR and nursing license are documented as current.
When can I start UT Tyler's post-master's DNP?
The DNP admits in January, May and August, which match the spring, summer and fall terms on the School of Nursing calendar. Practice hours start in the first semester and cannot be logged at any site without a fully executed affiliation agreement, so begin the site conversation before your start date.
How long is a Flex session at UT Tyler?
Seven weeks. Each School of Nursing semester holds two; in spring 2027, Flex I runs Jan 7 to Feb 27 and Flex II runs Mar 1 to Apr 24. Because census arrives within the first week, decisions about dropping a Flex course have to be made in days, not weeks.
