What to send
Name, email, phone, UT Tyler program, clinical start and city fill the top of the form. Below them, the message box is the place to be specific, so add whatever you already know:

- Practices or hospitals that have already said no, and any that said maybe
- Your longest acceptable drive, and the weekdays open for clinical
Keep your syllabus and your Canvas course close. Your placement advisor may ask what the course says about patient ages, settings or weekly hours before calling a single practice.

If your semester is only weeks away
Choose "In a clinical course now, need a preceptor" or "Next clinical course within 3 months" under Clinical start, so your request is read with the calendar in mind.
Then tell UT Tyler in writing, the way your syllabus asks. AGACNP students alert faculty and the Clinical Coordinator together, straight away; PMHNP students notify lead faculty promptly; FNP students tell faculty as soon as a site cannot give the experience a course requires.
Watch the clock on both sides. UT Tyler's published review windows run from 24 to 48 hours for PMHNP faculty sign-off to 48 to 72 business hours in the AGACNP course, while a site with no UT Tyler contract must first sign a paper affiliation agreement; a practice that already holds one skips that step. A plan for this week is on can't find a preceptor.
A close deadline never makes early hours count. UT Tyler credits no clinical time worked before full approval, so the first shift waits for your clearance.
Texas only for NP students
UT Tyler requires nurse practitioner students to make their home in Texas and log every clinical hour at Texas sites under a Texas or compact RN license, and the PMHNP adds that the preceptor and patients must be in Texas as well. Every NP search we run therefore stays inside Texas, starting from your own county.
Give us your city rather than only your region. Texas is wide, and a preceptor two hours away rarely suits a nurse working twelve-hour shifts, so distance is part of every match. Students in UT Tyler's Administration, Education or Informatics, Quality and Safety tracks, which accept students living in other states, should name their state in the message. Questions UT Tyler students ask
What if I don't know my next course number yet?
Send the form anyway. Early in the program, your track and the term you expect your first clinical course are enough, and your placement advisor maps the courses ahead with you. The clinical hours hub lists every UT Tyler clinical course by track, with its hours.
One course already has a preceptor. Can you cover my other courses?
Yes. Name that preceptor's specialty and course, and your placement advisor builds the remaining rotations around it. It counts most in the PMHNP, where a preceptor who has covered two rotations cannot take a third, and for FNP students, whose courses move from pediatrics through sexual and mental health to adults.
Should my Exxat account be ready before I contact you?
The search can start first. Set up Exxat as UT Tyler instructs; NP syllabi say instructions for the clinical placement software go up in Canvas in the semester's first week. Start compliance items early, because background checks and immunization records take time to clear. See Exxat at UT Tyler.
Is it fine to send a question before I'm ready for a search?
