Where the NP tracks differ
The FNP spreads 750 direct care hours over five courses, from pediatrics in NURS 5453 to the two internships, with OSCE days on campus. The PMHNP puts its 750 hours into Texas-only psychiatric practica with inpatient and telehealth rules of their own. The acute care certificate runs six 125-hour practica, one per 7-week session, over two years.
Doctoral students add practice hours logged in Exxat: 1,000 in the post-master's DNP. The clinical hours planner lines the tracks up side by side.

Questions UT Tyler students ask
Which UT Tyler programs need a preceptor?
The FNP, PMHNP and AGACNP tracks, the DNP practice hours and the education and administration practica. The informatics practicum can be done without one, the RN to BSN uses projects, and nurse anesthesia and BSN placements are made by the program.
Does UT Tyler still offer a pediatric NP track?
No. The 2026-27 catalog has no pediatric NP track, although one older page still mentions it.
Are the FNP and PMHNP certificates the same clinicals as the MSN?
Yes. The post-master's certificates use the same clinical courses and hours as the matching MSN track, without the MSN core.
Is UT Tyler's FNP online?
It is hybrid: coursework online with required on-campus OSCE days in Tyler, and clinical hours with preceptors near where you live in Texas.
