UT Tyler's School of Nursing has its home in the Braithwaite Building, on the university's main Tyler campus, with off-campus instructional sites in Longview, Palestine and North Tyler. BSN students train on those campuses; graduate students are mostly online and travel to Tyler for OSCEs, intensives and a few hands-on days.

The School of Nursing today
The School of Nursing is one of four health-related schools in UT Tyler's Health Affairs division, alongside the Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy, the School of Health Professions and the School of Medicine. It has stood as an independent school since September 1, 2021, when the UT System dissolved the former college after UT Tyler merged with the UT Health Science Center at Tyler that January.
The school teaches every level from the BSN to the doctorate: the pre-licensure BSN, RN to BSN and concurrent ADN-BSN; the MSN in FNP, PMHNP, Administration, Education and Informatics, Quality and Safety; the MSN/MBA; post-master's FNP, PMHNP and AGACNP certificates; the DNP, BSN to DNP and DNP-Nurse Anesthesia; a PhD; and Critical Care Transport. The programs hub has a page for each clinical track.
Leadership is organized by program: a Dean, an Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs, coordinators for the FNP, PMHNP and AGACNP tracks, a DNP Program Director, and site coordinators for Longview and Palestine. Who does what matches those roles to the clinical questions they answer.
From Division of Nursing to School of Nursing
The school has changed names several times, and older pages still carry the old ones. This timeline comes from UT Tyler's own history pages and the 2025-2026 Nursing Student Guide.

The 2015 name lingers online. An older UT Tyler NP certificate page, for one, still refers to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and offers a pediatric NP option that the 2026-27 catalog no longer lists. When a page uses an outdated name for the school, check its other details against the current catalog as well.
The Braithwaite Building and simulation
The School of Nursing's address is the Braithwaite Building, 3900 University Blvd., on the main campus. At its 2002 groundbreaking, UT Tyler described a building of more than 30,000 square feet with computer labs, nursing skills labs and ITV classrooms. It is where AGACNP certificate students sit their OSCEs.
Simulation goes by several names on UT Tyler's pages: Simulation Hospital, Simulation & Skills Lab, and NextGen Hospital, which one page describes as a simulation and skills lab that replicates a real hospital environment. The dedicated Simulation Hospital page was still a placeholder in September 2026, so rely on your syllabus or Canvas course for the exact room of a lab session or OSCE.
The main campus itself covers more than 260 acres of pine and oak forest in Tyler, and the School of Nursing shares it with the rest of the university.
Four sites for nursing
UT Tyler's undergraduate nursing page describes three off-campus instructional sites, in Longview, Palestine and North Tyler, alongside the main campus. The Nursing Student Guide lists all four addresses.

For BSN students the campus shapes the whole clinical stretch: the final four semesters are spent at one site, and faculty assign the clinical placements. For graduate students, the address that matters most is Braithwaite, the building you will drive to for OSCEs and any required campus day.
Who comes to campus, and how often
How often you see Tyler depends on your program. Graduate tracks are built for working nurses who live across Texas, so campus time is short and planned.
- BSN students spend their final four semesters in hands-on training at Longview, Palestine or Tyler, in clinical placements that faculty assign.
- MSN FNP students do clinicals near home and come to the main campus for a day or two each semester; the OSCE, usually around Week 11, is the only mandatory campus date.
- MSN PMHNP students study online apart from a single hybrid course and as many as two hands-on clinical sessions in Tyler.
- AGACNP certificate students come to the Braithwaite Building for OSCEs.
- DNP and BSN to DNP students may be called to Tyler for clinical work, intensives on campus, or presenting the DNP Project.
- DNP-Nurse Anesthesia is an in-person program; its clinical sites are program hospitals and surgery centers across East Texas, stretching from Tyler as far as Lufkin and Livingston.

UT Tyler, the Health Science Center and UT Health East Texas
Three similar names cause real confusion. The University of Texas at Tyler is the university, and the School of Nursing is part of it. The UT Tyler Health Science Center began as the East Texas Chest Hospital, joined the UT System in 1977 as The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler, and became part of UT Tyler through the 2021 merger.
UT Health East Texas is a hospital system, formed in 2018 through a partnership between Ardent Health Services and the UT System. UT Tyler describes the 10-hospital system as serving as the university medical center for the region. It is a separate organization from the School of Nursing, and our research turned up no public page describing an NP student placement process there.
The newest part of UT Tyler's health enterprise is the School of Medicine, which welcomed its first class in 2023. When you list UT Tyler on a Self-Placement Request, a CV or a facility form, the School of Nursing is the unit to name.
Your clinical hours happen closer to home
For graduate students, Tyler is where you test and occasionally train. Your clinical hours happen in your own part of Texas, with a preceptor you propose and faculty approve, which is why most of a UT Tyler NP program is spent far from Braithwaite.

Questions UT Tyler students ask
Does UT Tyler have a nursing campus in Houston?
UT Tyler lists a Houston Engineering Center among its locations, but no Houston nursing site appears on the School of Nursing's pages. Nursing's instructional sites are the Tyler main campus, Longview, Palestine and North Tyler. Graduate NP students can live anywhere in Texas, Houston included, and complete clinicals with local preceptors.
Is the UT Tyler School of Nursing moving to a new building?
Not according to any page reviewed. The UT System regents allocated funding for a new nursing facility in 2019, but no later UT Tyler page reports on the project, and the school still gives the Braithwaite Building at 3900 University Blvd. as its home.
Does UT Tyler have a nursing honor society chapter?
Yes. The Nursing Student Guide points to UT Tyler's chapter of Sigma, the international nursing honor society, which calls itself the Iota Nu at-Large Chapter. Students can also join the UT Tyler Nursing Students Association and Nurses Christian Fellowship, and the school gives the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students and a Graduate Excellence Award.
How should I write UT Tyler's name on a resume or CV?
UT Tyler's style guide asks for The University of Texas at Tyler on first reference and UT Tyler after that. It rules out UT, which is Austin's abbreviation, and variants such as UT-Tyler, UT at Tyler and UTT. Name the School of Nursing rather than the former college.
